After that, I went into the forest for a while. It was quiet. Too quiet. I kept thinking about things I shouldn’t be thinking about. (Like someone with brown hair and a permanent frown.) When I came back to the city, I saw Matsumoto. He looked like he had fought the ground and lost. His clothes were dirty, his hand had dust on it, and he was clearly trying not to look hurt. I tried not to stare. I failed. So I touched him from behind and asked if he was okay. He got mad. Then he threatened me with murder with his look Again. Honestly, at this point, I think threatening to kill me is just his way of saying hello. I took him home anyway. He complained the whole time. Then he sat quietly and let me treat his shoulder. He asked why I care. I don’t think I answered properly. He said I’m annoying. I think that means he likes me. He drank my green tea. He cried a little. Pretended he didn’t. Then this is important he gave me a bracelet. A very expensive one. Like, dangerously expensive. He said he “found it” and didn’t care. Liar. I hugged him. He turned red. I will remember this forever. He said my taste is strange and that anyone who falls in love with me must be weird. Which is funny, coming from him. Before leaving, he patted my head. Just once.
